Family, Peer Support and Leadership Workgroup
A safe space for parents/caregivers to identify barriers, gaps, and challenges in providing leadership opportunities and topic specific training to support families in strengthening their tool box. The goal is to ensure WSCC is creating and providing training opportunities for individuals seeking to expand their knowledge of peer and family support, as well as sharing partner organizations trainings. This workgroup will also provide recommendations to the Executive Director in the planning of the annual Children’s Behavioral Health Summit and Parent Weekend Training.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a program designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. Youth MHFA teaches parents/caregivers, educators, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help a teen (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health crisis or substance use challenge.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Mental Health First Aid virtual training is an interactive course that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health issues and emphasizes that recovery is possible. Participants are taught a five-step action plan to assist someone experiencing a crisis and connect them to appropriate professional care. King County MIDD partners with Valley Cities to offer this training at no cost for residents or employees throughout King County who are over the age of 18.

A safe space intended to identify barriers, gaps, and challenges statewide to appropriate and effective cross system collaboration communication and services. The goal is to create work plans and find a diverse array of partners to collaborate with WSCC to educate and assist families in becoming familiar to the benefits of having one treatment plan across all systems they may be involved in. The work plan will then be sent up the chain to our state partners at the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery to influence changes in our System of Care.

A safe space intended to empower families and caregivers to learn and share their experiences with children’s behavioral health services. The goal is to identify barriers, gaps, and challenges statewide to accessing appropriate and effective in-patient children/youth behavioral health services. In turn, the workgroup will strategize and brainstorm potential solutions to recommend to WSCC with the intent to fill these gaps and move the work forward. The identified solutions will then be sent up the chain to our state partners at the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery to influence changes in our System of Care.
